Love the big swing
If you’re looking for a quiet, non-touristy place with a view, check out Bernal Heights Park, also known as Bernal Hill or Bernal Heights Summit. This peaceful spot offers a short, uphill hike via a paved road or dirt trails (or both). At the top, you’re rewarded with a 360-degree view of San Francisco and the surrounding area. On one side of the hill, you’ll also find a large, adult-friendly swing hanging from a massive tree. Be sure to take a few minutes here to snap some photos for social media. (We say adult friendly because it’s not for the faint of heart. It takes a little effort to climb onto and to hold onto. It’s better for bigger kids, not the little ones.) This is also a popular spot for dog walking, so if you need a canine fix, you may just be able to find a friendly pooch to pet.
I’m a Chicago native who recently relocated to Oakland after 8 years in the United Kingdom and Tanzania. During business hours, I’m a Campaign Associate for a San Francisco human services nonprofit called PRC that provides legal, social and clinical services to marginalized adults at the intersections of HIV/AIDS, mental health and substance use. After hours, I frequent November Project SF and November Project Oakland, volunteer with Running for a Better Oakland, and try to find other ways to run with the East Bay Beer Runners and Sports Basement Free Runs. I’m signed up for the Kaiser Half Marathon in February 2019 and the Oakland Half Marathon in March 2019.
