Relaxing take on American history
The Smithsonian Museums are always high on the list of must-see attractions when visiting DC. While they are all great in their own way, they can often turn into sardine cans full of tourists. If you’re looking for a great museum in the Smithsonian family that is rarely as crowded as those situated on the National Mall, my favorite is the National Portrait Gallery. In a far more relaxing atmosphere, the NPG, and easily the favorite of Washington locals. It gives a unique take on American History through pictures, paintings, and sculptures of America’s most prominent figures.

I am in my early 40s and have been running marathons for over a decade. I’ve called Washington, D.C. my home for more than 20 years, although I have run marathons all over the country. In March 2018, I ran the D.C. Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon with my 16-year-old son.
